Living 30 minutes away from Washington DC, I often feel like I’ve done all the typical tourist items. I love finding fun hidden gems within the city! Today’s post focuses on 4 of my favorite places to visit (within walking distance of each other). Next time you’re in the city, I highly recommend you do some or all of these!
1. Walk Down The Wharf Boardwalk
Not only does this spot look super scenic, it’s also packed with SO MUCH! As you work your way down, you'll be entertained by the seafood shack where you can buy seafood from vendors at the Municipal Fish Market. Then you'll come across a variety of docks leading to the waterfront. The water is filled with opportunities to hop on a boat for a short cruise, a float, an adventurous kayaking trip or just a scenic escape from the bustle of the city. In addition, each dock has a different feature. Our favorite dock has several wooden swings. You can grab your dessert and sit there swinging as you overlook the beautiful water.
2. Pearl Street
This hidden gem is tucked away in between a few of the many restaurants and hotels at The Wharf. This short street captivates you as it is decorated with beautiful string lights and other decor that is related to that time of the year. We happened to visit during the time of the cherry blossoms. We found ourselves admiring the colorful lanterns and cherry blossom decor.
3. Mi Vida Restaurante
While at the Wharf, you should definitely grab a bite. If you are a foodie, you’ll LOVE strolling down this area. You can grab seafood, American, Caribbean, African and Hispanic food all on the same street. It’s a foodie’s dream street!
While we were dating, my now husband and I fell in love with this restaurant and always make it a mission to go when we’re here! It’s a little on the pricier side but you can get some great tacos for less than $25! I’d also recommend ordering a platter of the guacamole and chips. They sell them for $14 but they are delicious. You won’t regret it!!
The coolest innovative art exhibit you’ll find in the area. This art exhibit changes every few months to a completely new theme. So even if you frequent Artechouse often, you can always look forward to what’s to come next. You’ll find the interactive features to be very fun and though the entire building is small, you can easily spend the entire 1 1/2 hour limit in there. I’ve been a couple times and my favorite so far as been the Renewal 2021 theme. Though it seems I tend to come during cherry blossom season so I haven't really enjoyed the other seasonal themes. This exhibit is also a rare find as it's only also located in DC, NY & Miami Beach. Check out their website HERE for more info!
The nice part about all of these activities is that you can do ALL of them within a day! So, if you're in the area for even just a couple of days and need some cool (non-touristy) things to do. I definitely recommend doing these things. You'll have an absolute blast! As usual, thanks for reading the blog and hope you stop by again soon.
