Perfect Weekend Getaway to Solomon’s Island, MD

Who doesn’t love a good weekend getaway? If you’re in the DMV area, you’ll definitely want to add Solomons Island to your list. My husband and I took a trip down there last summer and felt it was such a great two-day trip option. Here are some ideas on how to take advantage of that weekend!

Where to Stay:

 Solomons Victorian Inn

This beautiful little Victorian Inn is anything but little when it comes to the quality and hospitality provided here. The owners, Shawn & Steve, make you feel absolutely welcome and included as soon as you arrive. They share tips on the best places to eat and things to do on the little Island. Upon walking in, you’ll notice the beautiful vines and water fountain that decorate the entryway. There are only a few parking spots on site, so you’ll need to be mindful of that. However, we never had a problem finding parking during our stay.

Given that this is a B&B, they provide breakfast each morning. You are given the option of eating in their dining area with such beautiful views of the water and outdoor area or you can eat in your room. I’m not sure if this was due to Covid or if it is a regular thing. However, we switched it up daily based on our schedule. They are also very accommodating to dietary needs and restrictions. My husband has peanut and dairy allergies and each day Shawn made a completely separate breakfast for him so that he was able to eat just as much as others. It was so kind and thoughtful and something that left us feeling so thankful that we had chosen to stay there. If you're reading this Shawn & Steve, we love your B&B so much!

Where to Eat:

Charles Street Brassarie

If you’re looking for American food with a good view, this is the spot! We originally purchased a Groupon for this place and thought we’d give it a try. Now, I’m not big on seafood so I didn’t try much of theirs. However, I got the Short Rib appetizer and it was absolutely delicious! My husband tried to order their rockfish and unfortunately they were out at the time. So, he ordered a burger, which he enjoyed as well. To us, the best part was the water-side view. You could see the sunset so vividly and all the boats alongside the water. It was so peaceful! To enjoy this view, make sure you ask for the upper balcony eating. There are only 3-4 tables up there so it may be scarce, but if you do get seated there you’ll love it.

 Things to do:

Walk the “Boardwalk” next to Solomons Island Rd South

One of our day adventures consisted of taking a stroll alongside Solomons Island Rd. It reminded me of Santa Monica’s boardwalk where you can park right in front and take a stroll down. There was plenty of parking and a public restroom located right across the street! Alongside this “boardwalk” is a food spot called The Pier. We didn’t try it but heard it was good. And you can even stop by and grab some ice cram at The Ice Cream Place across the street.

Peruse the Vineyards at Running Hare

Take a small detour and enjoy the lovely sights of this vineyard. This Tuscany-inspired beauty is located only 30 minutes from Solomons Island in Prince Frederick, MD. Enjoy wine flights, tastings & WINE SLUSHEES! This was our first time trying them and we absolutely loved it. With a side of fries or pizza (which you can get at one of the food trucks on-site), they were absolutely delicious! I’m drooling just reminiscing our experience. We took home a bottle of the Jack Rabbit Red and wished we stocked up. I’m not wine connoisseur, but I’m confident you’ll love their selections.

Their food was very memorable, but so was the view! You could walk through their vineyard and see the beautiful orchard trees. There’s a large grassy area that allows you to bring a picnic blanket and chill out on the lawn. And an added bonus is the LIVE MUSIC. Yes, you can sip your wine, eat and enjoy some tunes all at the same time. Not even kidding, it was such a vibe. Though it’s not directly in Solomons Island, I’d definitely recommend making a day/evening out of it! Comment below your favorite weekend getaway spot. I'd love to hear!
