Hello! I hope you are all enjoying a cozy winter day and if not, I hope you're enjoying your day in general. I'm introducing a new thing to the blog that I'm SO excited for and wondered why I never did this in the first place. Personally, I love looking at blog or video reviews of products before I purchase them. Yes, I'm that girl who will chose to miss out on something because of their scathing reviews. I can't help it! But, it dawned on me how much I feel like I can give back some of that help to others who are like me and are struggling to make a purchase.. especially one that's done online. As we are all most likely online shopping these days I hope that you benefit from this review.
Now the object we'll be focusing on today is a specific Kate Spade bag that you have probably seen in some of my recent posts. This bag is known as the Eva bag. Now, I have never purchased a medium or large sized bag in this particular line, however... my most recent bag purchase from Kate Spade happened to be the satchel size Eva bag. Where do I begin? Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good Kate Spade splurge. I actually purchased this bag to reward myself for transitioning into wifey life quite decently. So, when I saw they were having their infamous "Surprise Sales" I had to browse around. I saw this cute bag that resembled the type of bags I usually gravitate to. Now, I wanted a black bag in my closet and so I opted for that color. After placing the order, I waited in excitement!
While impressed with their quick shipping speed, I was not impressed with the product itself! And here's why. My last purchase from Kate Spade was a cute Laurel Way Evangelie and before that was the Cove Street Provence. I absolutely love those bags and while they look very similar.. I noticed a trend every time I ordered something from their surprise sales.. the quality progressively decreased. But, of course, I'm loyal to KS.. so what do I do? Give in to yet another surprise sale. As I opened my package and unraveled all the bits and pieces that the bag is entangled in, I couldn't help but notice the thin and material used on the inner coating. Hope I'm not coming across as rude but, it almost felt like those hollow play purses you used to buy when you were a kid. This was due to the fact that the usual cloth lining was missing from the inside. This bag is leather inside and out.. and I was not a huge fan at all. That meant, there would be no zip pockets within the bag as well. Instead was a leather pouch pocket in one side of the bag. I was absolutely disappointed.
Not only did I not like the leather look, I also didn't like how exposed my bag felt even when it was zipped. The top corners of the bag still expose a little hole that allows small items like lipstick or lip balm to easily slide out without anyone even noticing. Though it is a satchel, I still feel like I have satchels with more inclosing that this. So, I am not a big fan. However, if you like that looks.. then by all means go for it!
My poor husband had to hear about my mixed feelings on this bag for months. Oh, and the thing about these sales is that they are f-i-n-a-l... yes FINAL. So, I gave up complaining and decided to embrace it. I can't blame KS entirely. I totally skipped over the red flags such as "SATCHEL" written in the title. I also didn't pay attention to the pictures on their website. I was just way too excited. While I have found good use for the bag today, I still occasionally regret my decision to purchase it. But for now, we are rolling with it. So, moral of the story is to make sure you do ALL your research prior to making a more expensive purchase.
