Spend the Perfect Weekend in Philly

We recently visited the lovely city of Philadelphia! Although, we’ve both been before, it was nice to go together as a married couple. So, we took advantage of every possible date-worthy area!

If you’re planning on going, whether with your SO or your friends, you should definitely check out these spots. Be sure to dress comfortably so you can enjoy your time. You’ll be doing lots of walking. When you’re done reading, comment  below your favorite part of Philly!!

Day 1

1. Visit Philadelphia City Hall

I am not a big history buff, but I really appreciated seeing this beauty! Located right in the heart of Philly, this building features gorgeous water fountains out front as well as statues that commemorate historic events and figures related to the city.

2. Take a photo at Dilworth Park

Okay, I promise this isn’t just a list of your typical tourist must see locations. But, if you’re looking for a nice photo-op, this park is the perfect place. It’s not hard to find as it’s located right next to City Hall and a short walk from Logan Square. We happened to go on a day where they featured live music from an up & coming band. It was a nice treat!

3. Stroll through Rocky Steps, The Treehouse & Azalea Gardens

The iconic Rocky Stairs has such a stunning view of the city from the top of the stairs. But what a lot of people fail to realize is that there is such a gorgeous path behind it. You can literally find joy in walking all around the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is there the stairs sit in front of.

Right behind it is The Treehouse & Water Works. All of which are great spots to check out! You can make a day/afternoon of this specific part of Philly. And if you love picnics, you can find a nice shady spot to lay out at the Azalea Garden or grab a beer at Parks on Tap located right next to the Water Works.

4. Stroll through Rittenhouse Square

It’s really not hard to find beautiful garden squares in Philly as they are located pretty much all around Center City. There’s Logan Square, Franklin Square, Independence Square. However, my favorite is this one right here because there are plenty of benches and lots of shade during the spring time.

5. Dine at The Dandelion

Yum yum yum! This English-style pub is located right by Rittenhouse Square encased in gorgeous lush greenery. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken and Chase ordered their Fish & Chips. They were absolutely delicious!! This was the perfect location for dinner because it was so close to all the other places we looked at during the day. So, we didn’t need to drive at all!

Other great spots to eat include:

  • Giorgio on Pine
  • Dutch Eating Place
  • Tria Cafe Rittenhouse
  • Victory Brewing Company (great beers)
  • Good Dog Bar

Day 2

6. Grab Brunch at Luna Cafe

We decided to give it a try last minute and thought it was the cutest cafe with some delicious breakfast options. We ended up getting our breakfast from there twice in one weekend. The first day, I ordered the bagel sandwich with arugula added on and a side of fruit (strawberries & blueberries). It was DELICIOUS! Chase got their 2 eggs your way platter w/ scrambled eggs, potatoes & sausage. He loved it as well!

The second day, I decided to try their famous breakfast tacos w/ potatoes on the side. And Chase got their omelette platter. We loved them as well!!  Now, for drinks we got their iced matcha latte & regular latte. They were good but I wouldn’t say they were great.

7. Stroll through Chinatown

This was another area we stumbled upon and absolutely loved! It’s a short strip filled with shops and restaurants. They are even building our favorite bubble tea spot Gong Cha!

8. Shop along Market Street’s Fashion District

As we strolled down Market Street, we HAD to take a detour through Primark! Because we don’t have a Primark close to home, we definitely took advantage of it. We were able to secure garage parking close by so we didn’t have to walk around Philly with our new clothes.

9. Visit the Gardens surrounding the Independence Hall

Everyone talks about Independence Hall, but located all around it are lush gardens. This one here is the 18th Century Garden. But, right across the street are the Rose and Magnolia gardens.

10. Stroll through Elfreth’s Alley

Why not take a walk down the oldest inhabited road in America? Yes, this cobblestone beauty was one of the first ever to be created in the States. And it’s still as strong and well-kept as ever. If you take a peek into house #126, you’ll find a museum that stores the experiences of past residents.

11. Dine at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar

Still drooling over this meal! Cuba Libre is a great spot to have authentic Cuban cuisine. We found this as a last minute option and were quite impressed! I ordered their Ropa Vieja and Chase got the Vaca Frita. Although, he said that next time, he’d order What I got. For drinks, we both got their mango mojito and really loved it! You will enjoy this spot too. I suggest you reserve your table ahead of time to secure a spot.

Other great spots to eat include:

  • TOMO Sushi & Ramen
  • Jim’s South Street

12. Spend the Evening at Spruce Street Harbor Park

This gem is such a great spot to relax after a long day of walking and sight seeing. Located right on the waterfront, Spruce Street Harbor Park offers hammocks (I suggested bring a portable lysol spray), food trucks/restaurants as well as a a relaxing view of the water! All which made for a perfect date night evening. The one thing I’d change though is the day and time we went here as it was a bit crowded.
